COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Police in northern Idaho say a 33-year-old woman crashed her Mercedes sport utility vehicle into another vehicle and then stole a good Samaritan's Volvo leading to a second more serious crash.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says Kara L. Powers had to be extricated Tuesday from the Volvo with serious injuries and was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. She was listed in satisfactory condition yesterday. Authorities say Powers in the first crash ran into a Subaru and then tried to drive off in the Volvo after the driver stopped to help.

Police say the Volvo's owner managed to get her three children out before Powers drove off and rear-ended a Dodge pickup at high speed, causing both vehicles to roll multiple times. The driver of the pickup was taken to Kootenai Health and was in stable condition.
