ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A Spring Creek man accused of illegally shooting an antelope last August has been ordered to forfeit his gun and pay $1,500 in fees.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Bryan Iverson pleaded no contest to a gross misdemeanor poaching charge and was sentenced on Monday. Iverson said he had a tag for the antelope in a nearby area and killed the animal by accident after it passed in front of his vehicle.

District Judge Al Kacin told Iverson to pay attention in the future. Iverson said the Nevada Department of Wildlife confiscated his gun after the incident, as well as the antelope itself. NDOW officials tell the newspaper they typically use forfeited guns for department programs such as predator control, or sell them to buy other equipment.
