MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — The University of Idaho's new provost comes from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports that John Wiencek will start work as the university's chief academic officer on June 1. He has been serving as the provost at Virginia Commonwealth. Wiencek replaces Katherine Aiken, who was named to the position on an interim basis in 2013.

He says he's excited about the new job and that the University of Idaho is poised to boost its enrollment and build on the quality of education it offers. His responsibilities will include the general direction of all academic programs and instructional services on the Moscow campus.
