LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — More Nez Perce County records will be destroyed after raw sewage flooded the courthouse basement.

County commissioners on Monday gave Clerk-Auditor Patty O. Weeks permission to destroy the records contaminated by "ankle-deep" sewage on Friday. Weeks says she will ask the commission next week for permission to destroy more contaminated records, though those haven't yet been identified.

The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1MIQPJX) that a previous flood occurred on the second floor when a third-floor toilet tank got stuck. Commissioner Douglas Zenner asked why courthouse offices haven't converted entirely to electronic records.

Weeks says shifting to paperless will require commissioners to allocate workers and money. Weeks says the century-old building on Monday retained the odor of sewer gases.
