COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho state police say an autopsy determined that a man found dead in his ex-wife's Coeur d'Alene home after an hours-long standoff with police died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

In a statement Tuesday, state police said the Kootenai County coroner's office had finished its autopsy of 37-year-old John David Crispin. He was found dead Sunday inside the home. State police detectives are leading a task force investigation of the case. It is expected to take several weeks.

Coeur d'Alene police said earlier that the case began Saturday night when Crispin's ex-wife left her home and told police the man was inside, was armed and said he would not leave. Officers set up a perimeter around the home. Police said Crispin fired at least one round from a weapon at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers returned fire.
