COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho woman faces charges after authorities say she saw a hunter's falcon down a duck, then beat the falcon to death with a beaded scarf.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that 60-year-old Patti MacDonald of Hauser is charged with a misdemeanor count of beating or harassing an animal. Authorities say MacDonald fractured the skull of the falcon, named Hornet, on January 7th. Idaho Fish and Game says the also duck died and is being stored as evidence.

Authorities say an Idaho Fish and Game officer received an anonymous call from a woman saying she tried to save a duck from a falcon. The phone system identified the caller as MacDonald. Hornet's owner, Scott Dinger, says MacDonald should be charged with killing a protected species.
