Oregon Cub Taken to Bear Rehab in Idaho

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A scrawny bear cub that fell out of a tree in southern Oregon will have a chance to return to the wild. The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Department is sending the bear to the Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary near McCall, Idaho. The Mail Tribune reports it will be kept from human contact this winter so it can be released next spring back in a remote area of Jackson County. That's where it was found Jan. 6 after falling from a tree into blackberry bushes.

The female cub appeared to be an orphan and was underweight at only 13 pounds. Wildlife officials had to decide whether it should be rehabilitated, sent to a zoo or killed to prevent it from becoming a nuisance.
