RUPERT, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Rupert police have arrested a suspect following an armed robbery of the Ridley’s Pharmacy Saturday Night.

Rupert Police Detective Jeff McEwen said that the incident happened around 7:00 p.m. at 310 Oneida Street.  Upon reviewing video evidence at the scene and interviewing several witnesses, City of Rupert detectives have identified 27 year old Michael Jay Smith as the suspect who robbed the Pharmacy shortly before closing on Saturday evening.

Smith is accused of taking a quantity of Oxycodon pills that are available only by a doctor’s prescription and fled the scene on foot. Witnesses reported that a white male, approximately 20-30 years of age and wearing a camouflage jacket, entered the store and presented the pharmacist with a note demanding a quantity of prescription pills. The male then exited the store and fled the scene with the pills.

An arrest warrant has been requested for Smith, 27 of Rupert for the charge of Robbery. Smith was last seen at the residence of a family member on Saturday evening. The Rupert Police Department requests anyone with information pertaining to Smith’s whereabouts to contact the Rupert Police Department or your local law enforcement agency. Smith is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
