BOISE (KTVB) -- A man who tried to get away from a traffic stop ended up in even more trouble Tuesday night.

A deputy from the Ada County Sheriff's Office tried to pull over 31-year-old Richard Burns on Emerald Street just before midnight. But deputies say the suspect hopped out of his car and ran, barricading himself inside the garage a random home in the 7500 block of Emerald Street.

The home's five occupants were evacuated as the situation stretched into a standoff. For more than three hours, deputies say, Burns refused to come out.

But after the Ada Metro SWAT Team was called in, Burns changed his mind, and surrendered without incident.

He was not armed, deputies say.

The suspect, who was wanted on a felony parole violation, was taken into custody.
