BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Officials are examining water in the Boise foothills after a dog reportedly collapsed and died shortly after drinking from a local spring.

KTVB-TV reports that Public Works Department employee Kate Harris says that a visual inspection showed no harmful algae in the water. She helped collect samples of water sources in the area to test for cyanide, E. Coli and other toxins. City employee Mike Journee notes that there were plenty of fish and frogs in the area and that the water was clear.

The dog was out for a walk with its owner in the Hulls Gulch area behind Camel's Back Park. Boise has posted no trespassing sings in the area to help keep hikers and pets safe. Officials say test results should be back in about a week.
