Pronghorn Fawns Orphaned After Doe Poached Near Mountain Home

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Fish and Game officers are investigating the case of a pronghorn antelope doe shot and left to waste, with her twin fawns orphaned. One fawn was wounded — shot through both rear legs. Conservation Officer Greg Milner says the animals likely were shot Sunday or Monday just north of the Danskin Power Plant near Mountain Home in southwest Idaho.

The fawns were taken to the Idaho Equine Hospital in Nampa where they will receive medical care. Game officials hope they can be placed with a wildlife rehabilitator. Milner says evidence indicates the pronghorn were shot with a high-powered rifle. The area is frequently used by recreational shooters.
