Quarantine at Idaho Women’s Prison Ended

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — State officials say they have ended the quarantine at a section of the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center and cleared the way for visitation to resume. Idaho Department of Correction Spokesman Jeff Ray said the quarantine impacted 90 inmates at the lockup.

The quarantine was put in place on Nov. 8 after an inmate who was recently transferred into the prison tested positive for active hepatitis A. Ray says no new cases have emerged, but agency officials, opting to err on the side of caution, are barring any inmates moving in or out of the unit for another week.

Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by a virus spread by eating or drinking items contaminated from someone carrying the virus.
