A new panel tasked with redrawing Idaho's political maps will convene later this month and not on Monday, as Secretary of State Ben Ysursa had hoped. Ysursa had asked Idaho Senate and House leaders, along with the chairmen of the Democratic and Republican parties, on Monday to name new members to the six-person redistricting committee by Wednesday, with meetings set to begin next week. The Spokesman-Review reports the deadline was pushed back after some officials said they couldn't act that quickly - and pointed out the Idaho Constitution allows them 15 days to make appointments. Now, the panel is not expected to convene until September 28th. Officials are naming an entirely new panel after a previous redistricting effort failed last week amid bitter rancor between Democratic and Republican members.
