Doctors have upgraded the condition of a Canadian woman who survived seven weeks in the remote northeastern Nevada Mountains. St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls elevated 56-year-old Rita Chretien's condition to good. The couple from Penticton, British Columbia, strayed onto a mountain road en route to Las Vegas in March. Albert Chretien left their van on March 22 to find help and never returned. Searchers are holding out the slim hope he found shelter. Rita Chretien survived by rationing trail mix and hard candy. Surrounded by family, she had a dinner of salmon, rice and green beans Monday night -- and a breakfast burrito with homemade salsa Tuesday morning. Forest Service and BLM personnel are now assisting in the search with horses and ATVs. The Elko County Sheriff’s Office says 30 people are scouring the vast and rugged terrain.
