Search for Missing Plane in Idaho Backcountry Suspended

MCCALL, Idaho (AP) — Terrible weather forced search and rescuers to suspend their efforts to find a single-engine plane that went missing Wednesday in central Idaho's remote backcountry with three people on board.

The 11-person search team was turned back Thursday after setting out on foot and horseback from a trailhead east of Donnelly. The Idaho Transportation Department said Thursday the team from Valley County tried to reach a location indicated as a potential crash site by the aircraft's emergency locator transmitter signal.

It's not accessible by motorized vehicles.  The Cessna 206 single-engine airplane vanished Wednesday after taking off from McCall with a pilot and two passengers bound for the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The plane is registered to Wilderness Aircraft of McCall. A call Thursday to Wilderness Aircraft wasn't returned.
