TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)- A section of Pole Line Road will see a slight speed limit increase. The Idaho Transportation Department says on Wednesday (02/25) the speed from Washington Street to just before Fillmore Street will go from 35 mph to 45 mph.

ITD says it reflects the current roadway conditions and traffic speed. According to information released by ITD after a study found most traffic was going about 43 mph already. “In accordance with federal guidelines, ITD uses the 85th percentile, the speed at which 85 percent of the traffic is driving, to determine a safe and reasonable speed.

The increased speed limit has been agreed upon by the city of Twin Falls police and engineering departments.”  The study also found there were only 10 crashes on that section or road between 2011 and 2014.

“This change reflects the conditions of the roadway and how people already drive,” said Bruce Christensen, ITD District 4 (south-central Idaho) traffic engineer. “The safe operation by drivers in this section of roadway has led to this increased speed limit.”

That section of roadway had at one time been 45 mph and was then changed by the City of Twin Falls to 35 mph. In recent years ITD was given control by the legislature to change it's roads speed limits in cities.
