COCOLALLA, Idaho (AP) — A tractor-trailer carrying ammonium nitrate overturned in northern Idaho, killing the driver and spilling 500 gallons of liquid fertilizer near Cocolalla.

Idaho State Police say the crash occurred about 1 p.m. on U.S. 95 when 62-year-old John M. Moody of Peck drifted off the roadway onto the right shoulder.

Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler tells the Bonner County Daily Bee that crews arrived to clean up diesel and ammonium nitrate that collected in a ditch.

Wheeler says a second tractor-trailer arrived to remove the remaining material from the overturned vehicle.

The highway remained closed about seven hours but no homes had to be evacuated.
