BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A bill that would charge teenagers with a misdemeanor, instead of a felony, if they are caught sending sexually explicit material via mobile devices has cleared the Idaho Legislature.

House lawmakers approved the amended bill on Thursday. It now moves to Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's desk. The bill classifies most sexting as a misdemeanor, but reserves the right to charge a minor with a felony offense if a minor repeatedly distributes explicit content to large audiences.

Teens convicted under the current law face can prison time and may also have to register as a sex offender.
