Many of the states ski resorts still aren’t open thanks to a lack of snow.  Magic Mountain south of Hansen still hasn’t opened and neither has Soldier Mountain near Fairfield.  Brundage Mountain is counting on an incoming snow storm to make their 50th birthday celebration something to remember.

Resort spokesperson April Russell said the mountain could open in a matter of days if it gets the predicted amount of snowfall.  The slopes are covered with a base ranging from about 12 to 18 inches of snow.  But more is needed in order to open the runs for the season. This is only the second time in Brundage history that the mountain didn't open in time for the winter holiday season.  Drought conditions about 35 years ago pushed the resort's opening day back to January 8.  The second latest opening on record was December 21, 1989.  Even if the resort isn't opened yet, the "Light Up The Night" party will still go as planned on Wednesday, December 28.
