While at Sundance to premiere his new film, it's been announced that writer and director James Ponsoldt will write and direct the upcoming big screen adaptation of the young adult fiction novel 'Pure.'

THR reports that James Ponsoldt has been hired to write and direct 'Pure,' based on the young adult fiction novel of the same name by Julianna Baggott. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world (where all young adult novels must take place because teenagers are always like, "the world is ending!" and writers like symbolism) where the human race has been divided by a dome -- the "Pures" live under the dome and they're very pretty and everything is amazing for them, while the "Wretches" live outside the dome and are scarred for life. Again, symbolism.

But then a Wretch girl goes on the run with a Pure boy who happens to be the son of the Pure leader because Romeo and Juliet.

Ponsoldt launched his indie drama 'Smashed,' starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul, at Sundance last year and he's back this year with his follow-up, 'The Spectacular Now,' which premieres tomorrow. That film stars Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley, and is Ponsoldt's third movie in a row to play Sundance.
