Snow, Rain, Mild Temps Cause Magic Valley Flooding Issues

Paired with several inches of snow, warm temperatures and rain from last week officials in the Magic Valley say there was some minor flooding over the weekend.   Cheney Drive West near Walmart was closed for a while on Saturday due to flooding. 

One road in Rupert was washed out and another was closed for a time due to flooding with some reports of water as high as three feet over the roadway.  Several residents in the Magic Valley also reported flooded basements as the snow melted and the rain pushed the water into low lying areas.  More winter weather is in the forecast for the Magic Valley Area. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 11:00 a.m. Monday.  Most likely we could be seeing rain for most of the week and some freezing temperatures. That's bad news for folks like those that live along 16th Avenue East in Jerome. Residents there have been dealing with flooding after water breached a canal over the weekend. For area drivers the weather also means the possibility of more slick roads.  In Idaho's back country, those who make their money off of winter weather say they are happy to see all the frozen precipitation.  A reminder that if you are heading out to Idaho's back country be sure to check the avalanche danger before you go. The Idaho Transportation Department is reporting 20 avalanches fell on highway 21 between Grandjean Road and the Custer - Boise County line. No word yet on when it might reopen.
