TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)- St. Luke's Magic Valley announced today the resignation of it's East Region CEO, Jim Angle. Hospital Spokesperson Michelle Bartlome said the resignation is effective immediately and is unrelated to the recent death of a child at the hospital.

In a letter to employees President and Cheif Executive Officer David Pate said Angle's informed the health system he intended to resign several months ago. Officials say a new Site Administrator position has been created to fill the void called and already have two finalists. St. Luke's Chief Operating Officer, Chris Roth, will serve as the interim leader.

In late September St. Luke's officials announced they had launched an investigation into the death of 7-month-old August Dean Elliott.

Elliott arrived at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center around 11 p.m. on Sept. 22. He died a few hours later. In a prepared statement released Friday, officials say a nurse mixed up the child’s medication with a similar dose prepared for an adult also being treated in the emergency room.

One nurse prepared the adult’s medication solution at the nurse’s stations and another nurse later mistook that prepared bag as the child’s medication. Elliott went into cardiac arrest about 10 minutes after receiving the adult’s medication.

Officials stressed Angle's resignation is unrelated to Elliott's death.
