BOISE -- The ceremonial lighting of Idaho's State Christmas tree happened Monday night on the Idaho Statehouse steps. Governor Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter commemorated the event along with Idaho's constitutional officers. They helped Make-A-Wish Idaho kick off its Season of Giving campaign, in an effort to raise enough funds to grant wishes to Idaho children with life-threatening illnesses. The ceremony included music by the Andrus Ambassador Honor Choir from Meridian's Cecil D. Andrus Elementary School and the Coeur d'Alene Chamber Choir from Coeur d'Alene High School. Complimentary cookies and hot chocolate and hot cider were provided. Guests are encouraged to visit the Governor's Ceremonial Office and the Capitol Gift Shop, where Idaho's 2012 State Christmas ornament will be available, along with other items crafted by Idaho artists. Idaho's 2012 Christmas tree is a 50-year-old blue spruce donated by Mary Lou Jones of Boise.
