The Twin Falls City Council was still unable to reach a consensus on a permanent solution to the downtown parking issue yesterday.  With councilman Trip Craig absent the council voted 3 to 3 on an amended proposal to discontinue using parking meters in the downtown area and stop leasing private parking spaces and turn them all into public spaces.

With a tie vote the measure failed.  The amended version would have kept leasing of private spaces and would have only covered the meters with bags without removing the meters from the downtown area.  After several tries in the past few years the council has been unable to resolve the issue.  A recent survey shows most residents are in favor of removing the meters.  Many downtown merchants want them to stay saying they keep individuals and employees from dominating the parking in the downtown area.
