TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – The wait is almost over for students and their parents interested in learning about new school district boundary changes.

Twin Falls School District trustees will meet Wednesday evening to finalize boundary changes prompted by three new schools in the district. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in Room 301 at Canyon Ridge High School.

The district is set to open two new elementary schools this year – Rock Creek Elementary and Pillar Falls Elementary. It will open South Hills Middle School in 2017. The schools are needed due to increased student population in the area.

Enrollment in the Twin Falls School District has increased by more than 9.9 percent since 2011, according to the state’s official enrollment tallies, while statewide enrollment grew by less than 2.6 percent over the same time period.

Twin Falls residents passed a $73.8 million bond for the schools in March 2014, riding the wave of economic growth in the community. Several new businesses have already relocated to Twin Falls and others are looking to come here. The new schools will help ease growing capacity burdens at the existing schools.

Formerly, Superintendent Wiley Dobbs said he understands that boundary changes can be an emotional issue for some students and their parents, but the district has tried to keep the community informed and involved.

A draft proposal of the boundary changes was completed in December.
