WEISER, Idaho (AP) — Law enforcement officials in southern Idaho say they believe a child accidentally shot and killed himself while playing with a gun over the weekend.

RIVERDALE, Utah (AP) — Firefighters have rescued a 4-year-old boy who was trapped in a gun safe at a Riverdale sporting goods store after employees couldn't figure out the safe's combination.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old in Idaho picked up an unattended, loaded gun and accidentally shot a man in the foot.

A 2 year old boy has passed away at a Boise hospital after falling into an irrigation ditch near his home.

The Summer heat is winding down a bit and we haven't heard about a child or pet death in a hot car for a while - which is great news. But that doesn't mean we are in the clear because the moment we let our guard down it cold happen again.

I know times have changed - but when I was a kid I would leave the house in the morning and not come home sometimes until dinner. Apparently today that is child endangerment! Recently a mother was arrested for letting her 7 year old son go to the park alone.

Some people just aren't getting it! If it is hot outside - it is much hotter in a parked car. In Texas a mom left her kids in the car so she could go get her hair done without being bothered by pesky little kids. Some random strangers saw the kids and since it is Texas and hot - they broke the windows to the car so they could rescue the kids!

There have been far too many stories in the news this summer about parents leaving their kids in the car while they go in and shop. This is not okay! We all know that a quick trip in the store can end up being much more than that.

(AP) - Public schools chief Tom Luna is expected to testify later this week before a U.S. House committee on efforts to overhaul the nation's governing education law. Meanwhile, state lawmakers are urging Congress to repeal No Child Left Behind, which expects every child to be at grade level in math and reading by 2014.

A Twin Falls man is facing a preliminary hearing next week in 5th District Magistrate Court after being charged with two counts of lewd conduct with a child and sexual abuse of a child under 16.

We now know more about the twin falls man accused of severe child abuse in the death of a three year old boy. According to court documents 19 year old Lane Buddenhagen told investigators the child may have fallen out of a bathtub.

Idaho school progress stagnated last year, with only 62 percent of schools again meeting targets.     Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna said he was pleased that overall school performance mirrored the previous year's figure, given that tight budgets could have led to even poorer math and reading test results.
