BOISE, Idaho (News Release) – This Saturday, Idaho Power cultural staff members will give tours of the historical Swan Falls Powerhouse Museum from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. as part of Idaho Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month.

Visitors will get an up-close look at the area’s early history and the development of the first hydroelectric dam on the Snake River. Swan Falls dam, located about 20 miles south of Kuna, was built in 1901 to supply electricity to nearby mines. A new power plant was built in 1990, generating up to 25 megawatts of power as one of 17 hydroelectric dams owned and operated by Idaho Power.

The museum will remain open to the public each Saturday through Labor Day for self-guided tours. Visitors can also enjoy a day-use park, geocaching spots, fishing and boating access and campgrounds.
