If you need to get your driver’s license renewed and you live in Twin Falls, you'll have to wait until after 1:00 this afternoon. That's because the Twin Falls DMV will be closed today from eight until one in order to perform upgrades on the driver’s license system. Those upgrades will allow the office to start issuing the new state of the art licenses and ID cards. Earlier this year Ed Pemble, Driver Services Manager, with the Idaho department of motor vehicles said  the new cards will be virtually impossible to duplicate illegally, which will provide an extra layer of protection against identity theft.  Idaho is one of only 16 states in the nation that still uses an older system where licenses are available over-the-counter while you wait.  The new licenses will be manufactured in a highly secure, state-of-the-art facility outside of Idaho.  Under the new system, when you go to get a new license you will be issued a temporary paper document. Your new driver’s license will be sent through the mail and will take about ten days to arrive.  The Buhl DMV will be closed tomorrow from 8 until 1.
