TWIN FALLS (AP/KTVB) -- Crews are searching the Snake River in south-central Idaho for a fisherman who was swept away while trying to cross the river.

Jerome County Sheriff Doug McFall tells The Times-News that 46-year-old Troy Baynes of Murtaugh and 49-year-old Ivan Findley had hiked down into the canyon near Hansen Bridge to fish on Sunday, but were unable to safely hike back up the steep hill. At some point they decided to try to cross the river and Baynes was swept away.

Their families called the sheriff's office at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the men did not return home.

Officers spent the night along the river with Findley and they were able to safely hike out Monday morning.

Crews searched for Baynes by land, boat and air on Monday.
