Valley House, Statue and Snow Removal Among Topics at City Council Meeting

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – A request from Valley House to waive building permit fees, an update on a surveyor statue being erected for the community, and a presentation on the city’s snow removal efforts are just some of the topics scheduled for today’s Twin Falls City Council meeting.

Valley House is renovating an existing home located on Rose Street to increase its short-term transitional housing for women, which will provide an additional 12 beds, and is requesting that the building permit fees of $2,280 be waived.

A statue of John E. Hayes, the original surveyor of Twin Falls, is progressing with the help of Preservation Twin Falls Inc., but the presentation will give council members an update on the project and would like to discuss possible locations for the statue.

Funds for the statue will come from private donations and an arts grant from the Urban Renewal Agency.

Old Man Winter has come to Twin Falls. The Street Department will update the Council on the department’s snow removal policy and what it is facing with this season’s winter weather.

“The presentation will include what we do, how much is done, rationale for why we do things the way we do, explain priorities, route optimization, and share the latest and greatest techniques that have been tried and ones that are currently being used,” the agenda item reads.

Among the challenges, in 1984 the department had 130 lane miles to plow, including 20 miles of priority lanes; but in 2017 it has more than 600 miles – 200 priority lane miles – to manage.
