4 Day School Week?

Enrollment at Valley School District has been dropping for the past few years so changes needed to be made. Valley School just announced that they will be moving to a 4 day school week.

Many other Magic Valley School districts, including Gooding, Hansen, Wendell, Shoshone, Bliss and Richfield already operate on a 4 day week. They make some of the time up by extending their school hours. Valley School District's will be in session Tuesday thru Friday from 7:45am to 3:45pm.

Parents, students and community members in Valley School District were surveyed in 2009 regarding a 4 day school week. 80 percent of people responded with a positive outlook towards a shorter week.

An issue that some parents have is child care. Parents that work a normal 40 hour work week are having to come up with a place for their children to go on the Monday or Friday that school isn't in session.

Some parents are also concerned about having their children at school an extra 45 minutes. Are the extended hours too long of a day for little kids?
