Give the ‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Kickstarter Your Money
Time to stop complaining about how there’s no ‘Veronica Mars’ movie and start making a ‘Veronica Mars’ movie be a thing that happens. Series creator Rob Thomas (sadly, not the guy from Matchbox 20) has created a Kickstarter, and is asking fans for $2 million, making it the biggest Kickstarter goal ever.
The cast is onboard, and Thomas says that they’ve secured the backing of Warner Bros., who will help distribute the movie if it gets funded. He also said they want the film to screen in as many places as possible, but especially in cities where their funding comes from. Did you hear that? Get all your neighbors to donate too!
The kickbacks for people who pledge range from a PDF of the shooting script on the day of the film’s release to an actual speaking role in the film. Sadly, there was only one speaking part available, and it’s already been taken, but if you have $10,000 to spare on a ‘Veronica Mars’ Kickstarter, consider instead donating it to the Emerald Catron Vacation Fund. It’s not tax deductible, and if we could keep the whole thing off the books that would be great.
There are 30 days to go, and right now the project has raised ~$225,000, up from $90,000 when we looked at it about 35 minutes ago. What happens if they raise more than the $2 million they’re shooting for? Rob Thomas says “Who knows… For some reason the Neptune High class reunion takes place on a nuclear submarine!” Donate here and check out the funny cast reunion video exclusively made for KickStarter below.
Update: It’s now the biggest film KickStarter in history!
