RUPERT, Idaho (KLIX) – If you have some time on your hands, you might consider helping your community’s veterans by becoming a volunteer driver.

The Mini-Cassia Veteran Services is in need of additional drivers to take veterans to medical appointments, says service officer Georgia Greenwell. The office currently has three drivers, but she’d like to see at least five more.

“That would really help,” she said, noting the Twin Falls office also is in need of additional volunteer drivers.

“Our drivers don’t work just here,” Greenwell said. “We’re filling in for Twin Falls because it has only two drivers.”

One driver from Mini-Cassia travels all the way to Boise.

“It is a commitment of time,” she said. “It’s all on a volunteer basis, but we provide the vehicle and the gas.”

In order to drive applicants must pass a background check and physical, the latter which is provided free of charge. Hours vary depending on your schedule.

If interested or for more information, call the Mini-Cassia Veteran Services at 678-3599 or the Twin Falls office at 733-7610, ext. 2.
