GOODING COUNTY -- A car crashed over the rim of the Snake River Canyon early Sunday morning, killing the lone occupant in the vehicle, authorities say. Gooding County Sheriff Shaun Gough says the man who died has been identified as 49-year-old Donald J. Martin of Shoshone. His next of kin has been notified.

Gooding County deputies were called to the scene near Niagara Springs Park just after 7:30 a.m. Deputies believe the crash happened sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. Deputies tell KTVB that the car's driver missed a bend in the road and drove over the edge of the canyon. He was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

The Twin Falls Times-News reported that Martin was driving a white GMC Tahoe southbound about six miles from the town of Wendell when the accident happened. A worker at the fish hatchery in the canyon found his body. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
