VIDEO: Former Idaho Lawmaker LeFavour Sentenced

BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) -- A well-known former Idaho state senator appeared in court Tuesday. Nicole LeFavour was sentenced in Ada County for trespassing. She was involved in several "Add the Words" protests at the state Capitol earlier this year. LeFavour was described as an activist by her lawyer in court. She stood with others in the Statehouse refusing to leave until the "Add the Words" campaign got their hearing. A judge sentenced her to 75 hours of community service, $100 in fines, plus court costs. LeFavour was Idaho's first openly gay state lawmaker. She served four terms before leaving the Senate to run for Congress in 2012. LeFavour has been an outspoken advocate for the "Add the Words" campaign. Supporters want the words "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" added to the Idaho Human Rights Act. Today, LeFavour had the chance to tell the judge her reasons for why she trespassed. LeFavour and dozens of other "Add the Words" protesters were sentenced to community service last year that was related to nine different demonstrations at the Statehouse. The "Add the Words" bill did get a hearing this year, but was eventually killed in committee.
