There's a new video about a gentleman in Hagerman that raises alligators. It's a quick 2-minute watch that is definitely worth the time. However, it may make you think twice about hopping in the water around Hagerman.

My first response to this was the guy who raises these gators is almost too casual about it. He walks around them as if they were puppies. But, after educating myself a bit, learned that alligators are not normally aggressive toward humans. Here's what Wikipedia has to say.

As humans encroach into their habitat, attacks are few but not unknown. Alligators, unlike the large crocodiles, do not immediately regard a human upon encounter as prey, but may still attack in self-defense if provoked.

Note to self: do not provoke an alligator.

Alligators are not new here in the Magic Valley obviously. If you've been to Miracle Hot Springs, odds are you've seen the alligators there. But, it's a unique approach to managing fish populations that many would not normally associate with Southern Idaho.

It's a good thing that I'm perfectly happy on dry land, thank you very much.
