TWIN FALLS, Id. (KMVT / KSVT) Potholes are a yearly problem in the winter time and are even causing some lane closures.

With the continued moisture plus the freeze and thaw cycle of winter weather, fixing potholes is limited to when weather permits it. On I–84, one lane is closed near the Valley Road exit between Hazelton and Twin Falls at mile post 189. The lane is closed due to the amount of potholes and crew members not being able to fix them right now.

Snow plowing is the priority and the holes will need to dry a little before they can be filled. "It'll probably be spring time before crews can get back out there and actually mill out and remove the bad areas and replace them with a larger patch that covers the entire area of roadway degradation,” said Nathan Jerke, I.T.D. Spokesperson.

The Idaho Transportation Department says fixing the potholes depends on how much moisture we get in the next couple of days. The lane may be open by the end of the week if all goes well.
