‘Warcraft’ Blinks and Moves Away From ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ as Universal Dates Future Titles
Duncan Jones‘ ‘Warcraft‘ was originally scheduled for release on December 18, 2015, which it called before ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ announced when it would be hitting theaters (many thought the new ‘Star Wars‘ would go with mid-May as with all the previous films). But now that ‘Episode 7′ has picked the same weekend, ‘Warcraft’ blinked and has moved to March 11, 2016.
Universal has announced a number of new release dates, with ‘Warcraft’ the most prominent, all slotted for 2015 and 2016. First up is the “New Untitled Michael Mann Project,” which stars Chris Hemsworth and is about cybercrime, and it has been dated for January 16, 2015. Then there’s ‘The Boy Next Door,’ which stars Jennifer Lopez and will be directed by ‘Road House‘ remake helmer Rob Cohen. That’s slated for January 23, 2015, and it will be followed by ‘Seventh Son‘ on February 6, 2015. ‘Warcraft’ is now set for March 2016, while ‘The Mummy’ reboot is now targeting April 22, 2016 as its release date.
What may be most interesting about this — besides the ‘Warcraft’ news — is that ‘Seventh Son’ will now have been delayed two years. It was originally set for a February release this year, then got moved to October, then January 2014, and now has been pushed out an additional year. Likely this is because the film was produced by Legendary Pictures, which took the film with it in its divorce from Warner Brothers.
