We get some decent thunderstorms in Idaho, but just how likely is an Idahoan to be struck by lightning?

In Idaho, the odds are slim. Very slim.

In Idaho, the odds are slim; very slim. The National weather service tracks annual lightning fatalities and Idaho doesn't even rank in 2016. In fact, there are really only a handful of southern states that find themselves to be regulars on this list.

What's also interesting is that despite reports that climate change is increasing our odds of being struck by lighting, The National Weather service statistics seem to indicate that the number of lightning related deaths since 2006 is on the decline.

The year isn't over yet, but so far, there have been only 9 reported lightning deaths is the U.S. So, there's either less lighting or we're just getting better at avoiding it.
