‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Levels Up with a Sequel

Wreck-It Ralph

Disney is getting ready for Ralph to wreck it again, according to the composer of ‘Wreck-It Ralph.’ The company is reportedly working on a sequel to their hit animated film, but it may be some time before we see the results, as they’re still in the early stages.

According to an interview with Collider, composer Henry Jackman, who worked on the music for the delightful 2012 animated film, says that Disney is working on a sequel to ‘Wreck-It Ralph.’ Although he couldn’t provide much information, Jackman seemed pretty confident:

I can’t tell you more, not because I’m being coy, but I believe that it is officially on the cards. I don’t know any more other than a story is indeed being written. I’d be very surprised not to. I’m not blowing my own trumpet. Forget about the music. Just the movie itself I thought was a fantastically imaginative and creative piece of work.

And he’s right about that: the film was fantastically imaginative and creative — in fact, it felt like more of a Pixar film than the film Pixar released in 2012, ‘Brave,’ which itself felt more like a Disney princess film.

The first ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ movie featured John C. Reilly in the lead voice role as a video game bad guy who leaves his arcade home to venture out and try to become a hero with the help of other video game characters, voiced by Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, and Jack McBrayer.

Last March, director Ralph Moore hinted at some possibilities for a sequel, including multiple versions of Wreck-It Ralph from various platforms interacting with one another, but at that time, Disney hadn’t given Moore the official go ahead and he didn’t want to say too much. Things sound more official now.

A ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ sequel sounds like a wonderful idea — with the world of classic and modern video games, the possibilities for new adventures are just about endless. But Disney also has a couple of other films on their slate, including this November’s Marvel animated film ‘Big Hero 6‘ and ‘Zootopia,’ which is set for a 2016 release date. It may still be some time before we see ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ wreck it again.
