BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park's second-largest geyser spewed water and steam into the air for nearly an hour in its first eruption since 2010.

The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1FAh4VC) the eruption began after 5 a.m. Monday in an area northwest of the Old Faithful Geyser.

Will Boekel of the Geyser Observation Study Association says Giant Geyser is a rare performer, last erupting in 2010. It was active from 2005 to 2008.

The association's website says Giant Geyser can shoot an estimated million gallons of water up to 250 feet into the air. The geyser is capable pushing water 100 feet into the air for more than half of an hour-long eruption before slacking off.

Giant Geyser is the second-largest in the world, trailing only Yellowstone's Steamboat Geyser in size.
