After Nearly A Year, Twin Falls Recycling Program Doing Well

The nearly one-year old recycling program in Twin Falls seems to be a hit if a recent online survey the city conducted is any indication.  Over 82 percent of those responding to the online poll indicated they were highly likely to recommend the program. 

Nearly 64 percent said they were participating in the recycling program to benefit the environment.  The no-sort recycling program was started last January to replace a less-used program that required residents to separate items for recycling.  The current program also offers rewards and discounts to users at local business for those participating in the program.  City officials say that city funds were used to offset the costs of the program and therefore input from those participating in the program is important.  About 65 percent of the residents responding to the survey actually participate in the program.  The goal is for each resident to recycle 30 pounds of trash each month.  Right now that figure is at about 26 pounds.  One of the benefits of the program is that trash taken to the county landfill by the city has dropped dramatically.
