ISLAND LAKE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho health officials are warning eastern residents that toxic algae have been found in Henry's Lake in Island Park.

The Post Register reports that Eastern Idaho Public Health and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality found blue-green algae species that can produce potentially dangerous toxins. Officials say people visiting Henry's Lake should avoid swallowing or inhaling water and avoid contact with water that has visible algae.

The toxins the algae produce cannot be removed by boiling or filtering water, so no drinking from the lake is not advised. The blue-green scum could make people and animals sick and be fatal to dogs if they ingest large quantities of the water.
