Boise Police Dog Who Was Shot Last Friday Passes Away

BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) – Jardo, a dutiful member of the Boise Police Department’s K9 unit, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday night.

Jardo, a Belgian Malinois who was born in Europe, joined the department at two years old in 2013. He was a member of the department’s Special Operations Unit. He was shot last Friday, along with two officers as they attempted to locate an armed felon who opened fire on the team.

Cpl. Keven Holtry remains in the hospital, while Cpl. Chris Davis is recovering at home. Jardo underwent surgery and seemed to be on his way to a full recovery, according to the police department. He attended a candlelight vigil for law enforcement on Tuesday evening and visited the police station on Wednesday. He took a turn for the worse later that day, and his passing shocked the department.

"After an amazing initial recovery, BPD was shocked to learn of Jardo's passing. Our department is deeply saddened by his loss," Boise Police Chief William Bones said.  “Jardo served our community and though we were blessed with these few extra days to share with him, he ultimately gave his life in the protection of fellow officers.”

Arrangements are being made for a service to honor Jardo.
