Brundage To Open, Magic And Soldier Still Waiting

Snow lovers in Idaho, especially in the ski town of McCall, are rejoicing as word of an opening date nears Friday for Brundage Ski Area. Wednesday the community officially kicked off the ski season.  Brundage officials reported 2 inches fell Tuesday and in the last 48 hours a total of 7 inches fell on the base of the mountain. Brundage officials say they will be opening Friday morning at 9  with the front side opening with limited groomed runs. new

Brundage is also celebrating their 50 year anniversary.  As of yesterday the resort had a total of 18 inches of snow in the base area and 24 inches on the summit. Friday's opening will be the second latest opening day in the ski area's 50 year history. The latest opening was January 8th, 1977.  A little closer to home Magic Mountain reports some new snow but then rain and warmer temperatures delaying it’s opening. As of now resort owners say they are just waiting for more snow and have no projected opening date.  Pomerelle south of Burley has been open.  They are reporting one inch of new snow as of  yesterday with about 26 inches on top.  Soldier Mountain near Fairfield is still waiting for more snow.  Sun Valley has been open for several weeks.
