Here's something to be thankful for. Idaho's water quality is pretty good when compared to the rest of the country.

Fluks Aqua listed all of the water contaminant violations for each state over the last two years. In 2015, Idaho had 103 violations. The water situation has improved this year with only 75 in 2016.

The main villain in Idaho water is Coliforms.  What are Coliforms? I had to look it up. Here's Wikipedia's definition:

Coliform bacteria are a commonly used indicator of sanitary quality of foods and water. They are defined as rod-shapedGram-negative non-spore forming and motile or non-motile bacteria which can fermentlactose with the production of acid and gas when incubated at 35–37°C.[1] Coliforms can be found in the aquatic environment, in soil and on vegetation; they are universally present in large numbers in the feces of warm-blooded animals. While coliforms themselves are not normally causes of serious illness, they are easy to culture, and their presence is used to indicate that other pathogenic organisms of fecal origin may be present. Such pathogens include disease-causing bacteria, viruses, or protozoa and many multicellular parasites.

The one nasty fact about this type of contaminant is that this includes E. Coli. I'll pass on that second glass of tap water, thanks.

Even though we would love to live in a Utopian world with perfect water, be glad that Idaho isn't Texas or California. If you check them out on the map above, you'll see that they have issues. And, no, this is not some inside Idaho joke about the LA Rams or Dallas Cowboys.

But, this mention of water does give me another excuse to share this epic video of Shoshone Falls.
