A fire fueled by winds gusting up to 50 mph destroyed $300,000 worth of hay at the Wybenga Dairy near Oakley.  City of Oakley Fire Chief Harlo Clark says his crew was called out at 1 p.m. Wednesday and remained on the scene until 4 a.m. Thursday.

Clark tells The Times-News the fire started when picked up smoldering feed in a feed truck that had previously caught fire on Feb. 15. He says the fire started in one hay stack and continued spreading, destroying 1,000 one-ton bales of hay costing $300 each. No animals were injured. Clark says the fire was confined to the stack yard.
