Idaho Freedom Foundation Sues Boise School District

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A free-market think tank has filed a lawsuit against the Boise School district, citing constitutional concerns about the district's association with a teacher's union.

The Idaho Freedom Foundation filed the complaint in Idaho's 4th District Court on Aug. 31. According to the complaint, the Freedom Foundation is objecting to the Boise School District covering nearly $35,900 of the Boise Education Association president's salary and benefits. The complaint also says the district is unconstitutionally providing paid leave for teachers to attend union events.

Wayne Hoffman, president of the nonprofit, says Idaho's Constitution forbids school districts from aiding any individual, association or corporation. Boise School District officials declined to comment about the lawsuit. However, in a prepared statement, the district says it has benefited from the 20 year relationship with the Boise Education Association.
