Heads Up, Idaho Deer Hunters! It’s Time To Apply For Fall 2025!
This year feels like it's flying by, and because of that, it can be easy for Idaho hunters to overlook one of the more important months of the year.
Idaho Fish & Game Is Now Accepting Controlled Hunt Applications
For hunters in Idaho, this is a crucial application period that begins on May 1st and will run through June 5th. The animals in the controlled hunt are deer, elk, pronghorn, swan, fall black bear, and fall turkey, which we can all agree are Idaho staples.

For hunters, controlled hunting is one of the best ways to experience hunting.
"Controlled hunts typically have higher success rates than general hunts, fewer hunters in the field, and many hunters feel they have a better chance of harvesting a mature bull or buck during a controlled hunt," Idaho Fish & Game says.

"The tradeoff is controlled hunts typically limit where and when you can hunt, as opposed to a statewide general deer hunt or general season elk zone tag that typically includes several hunting units."
Idaho Fish & Game says hunters can also apply for the first Super Hunt drawing through May 31st. By purchasing an entry for the Super Hunt drawing, you'll be helping Idaho Fish & Game raise money to support "sportsmen's access programs and other big game management." IDFG reported that last year's Super Hunt drawing raised nearly $2 million for those programs.
How Do I Apply For The 2025 Fall Controlled Hunt?
Idaho Fish & Game says that if you have a valid 2025 hunting license, you can apply for controlled hunts online at GoOutdoorsIdaho.com, at any license vendor, the Idaho Fish and Game office, or by calling 1-800-554-8685.
