If you're a parent or guardian to a small child, you understand the importance of keeping them out of trouble... and keeping them safe.

When summertime arrives, many younger kids are out of school and looking to, you know, be kids! When the kids get outside to partake in summer activities, it can be a relief knowing they're getting away from the phones and screens. But it also means educating your child on how to stay safe with summer activities.

Nampa Water Safety Class 2025

Maybe you knew this, or maybe you didn't, but May is "Water Safety Awareness Month" and Nampa Parks & Recreation is celebrating in a big way.

On Saturday, May 31st, from 1 PM to 3 PM, Nampa Parks & Rec is holding a free "Safe Swim" event at Lakeview Water Park. According to a press release, kids will be given a "game board" to get stamped when they go to different safety stations.

Those stations include sun safety with St. Luke's, how to call 911 and do hands-only CPR, canal safety with Nampa Fire Department, boat safety with Canyon County Sheriff's Office, and water safety with Nampa Parks & Rec.

Once your kiddo has all the stamps, they'll receive a certificate of completion and free day pass entry to Lincoln Pool or Lakeview Water Park.

It's important to note that the water safety lessons are not the same as swim lessons. The lessons covered in the water safety portion will include "Look Before You Leap", "Reach or Throw, Don't Go", and "Lifejacket Safety."

Still, it's a great way to familiarize your little ones with water safety. Also, put them in swim lessons anyway! You'll be glad you did.
